Salomo ben Adret, also known as Rashba, was a prominent medieval rabbi, halakhist, and Talmudist born in Barcelona in 1235.
He became a leading figure in Catalan Judaism, serving as the Rabbi of Barcelona for 50 years. Adret was a student of Nahmanides and Yonah Gerondi, and his extensive knowledge and interpretations of the Talmud made him a respected authority across Europe.
He was also a successful banker, which allowed him to support his scholarly pursuits.
Adret’s responsa, which addressed various religious and philosophical questions, were highly influential and widely sought after.
